Driver Spotlight-Dnae Rose

Our next driver in the WISSOTA Driver Spotlight series is Dnae Rose. Dnae is in her third season behind the wheel of a Pure Stock. The Gordon, Wisconsin racer is following in the footsteps of her dad Courtney Rose.

What is your home track?
Rice Lake Speedway

What’s been your most memorable race or win so far?
Just finishing my rookie year. The most memorable race was probably my first big wreck at Rice Lake, because I truly started to realize just how many people had my back and were supporting me and wanted to see me succeed.

What’s one lesson racing has taught you that applies to life?
Racing has taught me to push myself out of my comfort zone and try things that feel hard. It’s shown me how to deal with tough situations and that failure isn’t the end of story, it’s the beginning. Messing up doesn’t mean you’re not good enough, it’s just a part of learning. The people who succeed are the ones who get back up and keep going. Most importantly, racing has taught me that confidence truly does matter.

What’s your pre-race ritual or superstition?
Typically, before a race I like to hang out with friends and walk around and mess around. I also like to fist bump my parents and friends before I go on the track or they go on the track to tell them good luck. My only superstition is don’t talk about spinning out or wrecking before the race.

If you had an unlimited budget, what would you race and why?
I think I would race a WISSOTA late model or Modified because then I could still race my local tracks and I could travel.

One fun fact about you that fans would be surprised to know?
Before racing I tended to keep to myself and was quiet but after I started getting involved in racing I started to come out of my shell and racing in general has shown me I just had to find my people.

What is your favorite race track food?
Dippin’ dots when the tracks actually have them.

What is the story behind your car number?
My number is 92.5 the 92 came from my dad and the original 92 Hoppy Wetzel and the 5 came from family friend Jason Havel. My number means a lot to me because of the people it stands for.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about racing?
I think because I’m a young girl in racing some people feel like they don’t have to respect me, but I think respect shouldn’t be determined by age or gender, it shouldn’t matter if you’re a teenager or a grown adult or what gender you are. Respect should be based on how you carry yourself on and off the track, by how you race, how you treat people, and how you handle wins and losses. At the end of the day, we’re all just out there to have a good time.

What was the biggest misconception you had about racing before you started?
I genuinely thought that I would have some concept on how to enter a turn but in the end, I had no idea. I love racing a lot and I’m so grateful for my opportunities, but I also didn’t know just how stressful, expensive, and even emotional it can really be.

What advice would you give to a new driver just starting out?
Hit up as many practice nights as you can and take constructive criticism from people but don’t let the negative stuff people say get to you.

What WISSOTA event do you most want to win?
I think The Fall Classic at Ogilvie or the Mph Invitational but the Bomber bash at Rice Lake Speedway would be cool to because It’s my home track.

What’s one thing you wish every fan understood about drivers?
That it’s not as easy as it looks and there is a life strapped in every car so when someone wrecks have some respect even though it’s entertaining.

Please tell us your favorite racing story?
Running 3rd in a heat race at a brand-new track (Granite City Motorpark) even though I ended up last after a mishap with another racer ending up in a bent axle and rear end it was awesome to see my potential!
