By Ray Beste
Sauk Centre, Mn (June 26th, 2009) - In only his second race this season behind of the wheel of his #31T WISSOTA Modified, Princeton, Mn driver Trent Follmer picked up the win in the divisions A-main. Jeff Wildung scored his second win in at the speedway in the WISSOTA Late Model division while Jake Varnum reigned victorious in the Legend car A-main. Nate Barber collected his first feature win of the season in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division while Tim Johnson collected his fifth win in as many weeks in the WISSOTA Street Stock finale. The four-cylinder division made it's first appearance of the season at the speedway with KRA Speedway regular Shawn Fernkes picking up the win. Fans, pit crew members and drivers congregated in droves once again for some great Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing at the 3/8 mile high banked oval located in Sauk Centre, Mn.

Kevin Kraemer blasted off from his inside row one starting position to take the lead during during lap one action of the 20-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified A-main. Kraemer led early on while Jeremy Kerzman made a power move in turns one and two moving from his twelfth starting position up into sixth on the first lap. Kraemer paced the field and was scored the leader at the conclusion of each of the two first circuits. The Midwest Modifieds really began to get after on lap five when Barber moved up into the second spot from his sixth starting position while Dan Ebert and Shane Sabraski began to move to the front. Kerzman cracked the top five a lap later while Kraemer continued to lead out front. A few yellows halted action early on before Barber blasted by Kraemer for the lead in turns three and four on lap eight. Sabraski and Ebert capitalized and moved into spots two and three while Barber led out front. After few laps clicked off the board before Jeremy Kerzman headed to the cushion to dispose of Justin Mackedanz for the fourth spot with six laps still up on the board. As the cars filed into turns one and two, Sabraski car expired a motor leaving him at a stand still in turn two. That would put Ebert on Barber's bumper for the final restart with circuits remaining. Twenty-second starter Brett Hoium looked very strong during the duration of the event. Hoium, who started in the 22nd position worked his way up to second place finish. Matt Weisman and Steve Johnson battled for the fourth spot in the ladder stages of the event with Weisman ultimately gaining the position after starting tenth. Ebert tried everything in his power to overtake Barber in the remaining laps, but it was not enough as Barber cruised on to his first feature win of the season. Ebert, who has been in contention all three nights he's competed at the speedway finished a hard fought second followed by Kerzman, Weisman and Johnson. Barber's victory in heat race two made his run a clean sweep while Sabraski and Johnson were each victorious in heat race action as well for the Midwest Modified division.

The Wollak sisters, Christina and Maria shared the front row starting duties for the WISSOTA Street Stock event A-main with 14 cars making the call. After the first started failed, Chris Winter grabbed the opening lap advantage while the field raced two by two behind. Tim Johnson looked strong early on as well as he moved from his row four starting position into the second spot just four laps into the event. A few yellow flags slowed action before Johnson disposed of Winter for the top spot in turn three via the bottom groove. Row five starter Randy Laage really began to look strong by lap ten. Laage used the top of the speedway to race all the way up to the third spot by lap eleven. On lap twelve, however, his left rear tire let lose ending his night in the #EZ-1 machine. Sauk Rapids, Mn driver David Goulet looked very strong toward the ladder stages of the event as he moved into fourth as the laps wound down. Johnson stretched his lead to a straightaway over Winter in the remaining laps and went on to keep his record perfect in tact scoring the victory. Winter, Chad Johnson, Goulet and Fargo, ND traveler Adam Burrows rounded out the top five. Tim Johnson and Chad Johnson each scored scored heat race wins in preliminary action earlier in the show.

The 4-cylinder A-main featured 25 competitors with KRA Speedway regular Shawn Fernkes picking up the mighty impressive feature win. Troy Nelson, Chad Funt, Adam Olson and Ben Godbee rounded out the top five running order for the 4-cylinder division. Godbee, Kyle Thell and Funt all garnered heat race victories earlier in the show for the 4-cylinder division.

The legend car feature was dominated by Morris, Mn driver Jake Varnum. Varnum led wire to wire to pick up his first ever I-94 Speedway victory on the newly clay surface. Varnum was joined in the top five by Kasey Kurtz, Micheal Dick, Brad Hartigan and Chad Sogge. Sogge scored the win in the division's lone heat race.

The WISSOTA Modifieds rolled out onto the speedway next with 17-cars stacking up two by two. Veterans Cullen Brown and Jason Voigt manned the front row starting duties as head flagman Buzzy Crip dropped the green. Voigt climbed the hill in turn one and grabbed the opening lap advantage with Brown in second. Fifth starter Follmer made a power move to the inside of Brown and was scored in the second position at the conclusion of lap three. Follmer quickly moved up to do battle with Voigt for the lead as the two waged a great battled for the point. Follmer worked the ditch with Voigt up on the cushion. Follmer and Voigt continued an unbelievable battle for the lead while Dave Cain cracked the top five on lap seven. Follmer finally edged ahead of Voigt for the lead on lap nine while Danny Bayer and Brad Loveday began to work their way forward. Row six starter Brad Loveday moved into eighth with seven laps still up on the board while eighteenth starting Bayer moved into tenth as well. Follmer continued to stretch his advantage out front while Shane Sabraski began to go to work on Craig Christiansen for the third spot. Sabraski and Christiansen had a great battle with Sabraski moving by with four laps remaining to go via the bottom groove in turns three and four. On the final trip around, Christiansen moved to the bottom as was able to capitalize on a slight mistake by Voigt picking up the third spot in the process. Out front it was all Follmer picking up his first win of the young season in only his second start. Sabraski settled for another hard fought second place finished with Christiansen third, Voigt fourth and Cain fifth. Curt Lund and Sabraski were victorious in the WISSOTA Modified heat races.

Brady Johanneck beat Dennis Hillson to turn one and seized the opening lap lead during action in the 20-lap WISSOTA Late Model finale. Fourth starter Jeff Hinkemeyer looked very strong early on as well as he moved into second behind Johanneck. Eighth starting Wildung, who fell back a spot early on in the event, began to pick cars off one by one by the time lap six rolled around. With the cross flags showing Wildung had successfully moved into the second spot behind Johanneck. Wildung worked the ditch with Johanneck up the rail. Wildung seized the lead on lap eleven with a beautiful power move using the bottom of the speedway to do so in turns three and four. Sixth starter Shaun Peterson looked very strong as well. Peterson snuck by Seth Brede for the third spot during the ladder stages of the event while Wildung cruised on out front. Eleventh starter Kyle Peterlin, fresh off a big win at Hibbing Raceway's "Governor's Cup" moved up six positions during the duration of the A-main finished in the the top five in fifth. On the final trip around, Wildung made no mistakes and went on to score his second I-94 Speedway win of the season. Johanneck had his best run to date with a great run coming home second followed by Peterson, Brede and Peterlin. The fourteen WISSOTA Late Models were divided into two heat races which were won by Wildung and Zach Johnson.

Next Friday night, July 3rd I-94 Speedway will once again host another entertaining race night. There is a change to be noted, there will be no WISSOTA Modifieds on the program this Friday night. The WISSOTA Late Models, however, will run for a $1,500 to win first prize. For more information regarding I-94 Speedway log onto the track's website at www.i94speedwayscom .
