Brede scores first career Late Model victory at I-94

By Ray Beste
Sauk Centre, Mn (June 19th, 2009) - Willmar, Mn driver Seth Brede scored his first career WISSOTA Late Model victory Friday night at I-94 Speedway. Shane Sabraski stayed hot in the WISSOTA Modified division picking up the win while Micheal Dick reigned victorious in the Legend car A-main. 2008 WISSOTA Midwest Modified rookie of the year Dan Ebert tallied a might impressive win in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified finale while Tim Johnson made it his fourth win in as many weeks in the WISSOTA Street Stock division. Fans, pit crew members and drivers alike convened once again at the 3/8 mile high banked oval for some terrific Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing.

After a short intermission, the WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled out onto the speedway for their A-main feature event. South Haven, Mn driver Dan McCain blasted off from the outside pole and took the lead on lap one. Fourth starter Randy Laage quickly moved into the second spot as He and McCain battled door to door for the lead. The yellow flag waved on lap six when Laage got turned around on the backstretch. This now put three time winner, Johnson on McCain's rear bumper for the restart. When the green dropped once again, McCain held the lead with Johnson taking a peak to the inside. McCain made a slight bobble and Johnson blasted by exiting turn two taking the lead. Seventh starter David Goulet steadily worked his way to the front during the 20-lap affair finishing in second. Out front it was all Johnson picking up his fourth win in as many nights at the speedway. David Goulet, Justin Vogel, Laage and Chad Johnson rounded out the top five running order. Laage and McCain were each victorious in heat race action earlier in the program for the WISSOTA Street Stocks.

Twenty-one of the finest WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds in the country rolled out onto the speedway next with Elizabeth, Mn ace Travis Saurer taking the early lead. Jeremy Kerzman and Jamie Thorstad battled for the second spot early on while Shane Sabraski and Dan Ebert began to work their way to the front. A myriad of yellows halted action during the middle stages of the event before Saurer led the field around to the green once again. Thorstad retired pitside on lap seven along with Kerzman which brought each competitor two positions closer to the front. With nine laps still up on the board, Saurer pulled up lame down the backstretch and retired pitside with a mechanical failure. Dan Ebert inherited with ninth starter Sabraski in second. Ebert and Sabraski distanced themselves from the rest of the field while South Haven, Mn gunner Matt Weisman sliced and diced his way toward the front. After starting seventeenth, Weisman rallied to a fourth place finish at the line. In the end it was Ebert scoring the victory over Sabraski. First time traveler Jeremy Houle of Forrest Lake, Mn came home third followed by Weisman and Jerry Esler.

Olivia, Mn driver Rob Thurston led lap one of the legend car feature. Thurston used the top of the speedway while most drivers ran near the bottom. Thurston continued to lead as fifth starter, Dick quickly moved into second. The front duo raced Nosed to tail for the whole race before Thurston looped his machine coming to the white flag. That would give Dick the point for the green, white, checkered finish. Week three winner Brad Hartigan made a power move to the outside of Dick on the final lap but it was not enough as Dick went on to score his first ever win on the dirt. Hartigan, Thurston, Jake Varnum and Fargo, ND traveler Dennis Dahl rounded out the top five. Dick's victory in heat race action made the night a clean sweep in the process.

One of the toughest fields of WISSOTA Modifieds you'll find anywhere in the country rolled out onto the speedway next with Jake Wildman and Jamie Lemke manning the front row starting duties. When the green flag dropped, Lemke took the early lead. Wildman got a bit side ways at the conclusion of the first lap and collected the #4c of Craig Christiansen in the process. Wildman tagged the end of the field while the incident ended Christiansen's night. When the event resumed, 1993 track champion Lemke took the lead. Lemke slammed the right rear on the cushion and ran his familiar high line leading the opening lap in the process. The battle for the second spot was a good one early on between Ryan Canon and Curt Lund. Lund and Canon dueled side by side for several laps before Canon took over the spot. After his car got loose on his early, week three winner Danny Bayer rallied. Bayer worked the bottom groove while most cars were up on the cushion. Eighth starter Sabraski worked the bottom line as well as he took over the second spot from Canon on lap nine. Sabraski then quickly moved up to do battle with Lemke for the lead. Lemke pedaled his machine around the outside with Sabraski in the ditch. With eight laps remaining, Sabraski made a power move to the inside of Lemke in turn three. He was able to hold his momentum and took the lead. Bayer moved into the fourth in the ladder stages of the event while Sabraski held on to take his third win in four weeks. Lemke brought back memories to a lot of racefans with his great run in the second spot followed by the terrific trio of Canon, Bayer and Redwood Falls, Mn legend Curt Lund. Sabraski and Canon each picked up heat race wins for the WISSOTA Modifieds.

Brede took the lead on lap one of the 25-lap WISSOTA Late Model A-main. St. Cloud, Mn legend Jeff Hinkemeyer moved into second behind Brede and quickly began to apply pressure. Hinkemeyer's night would end, however, on lap seven when he expired a motor on the frontstretch. When the race resumed, Eric Breeschoten moved into second and He and Brede now battled for the lead. Brede worked the top groove with Breeschoten on the bottom. Alexandria, Mn product Shaun Peterson moved into third behind the lead duo and threw his hat the ring as well. Brede and Breeschoten wheeled door to door for the remainder of the event with Brede picking up his first ever WISSOTA Late Model victory. Breeschoten had another stellar run coming home second ahead of Peterson, Scott Lehn and Hinkemeyer. Peterson was reigned victorious in the division's lone heat race.
